In honor of ALKU turning 15, ALKU and the ALKU Foundation will be continuing their mission to give back to the community by making 15 generous donations to non-profits that our employees are passionate about.
Community Youth Empowerment, Junior Achievement, and Young Man with a Plan are best known for their positive impact on the local community through mentoring. Mentoring is at the heart of ALKU, the ALKU Foundation, and the three non-profits below.
Coming together from a variety of backgrounds and experiences, the Community Youth Empowerment (CYE) team consists of dedicated Wareham locals. Their team bond goes beyond a zip code and is sealed through their shared dedication to helping young people. As a team, they work to provide youth with knowledge, skills, and mentorship applicable to life outside of school. CYE strives to collaborate with community leaders and resources to uplift youth and ensure their bright future. (Fun fact – ALKU’s very own Vice President of Healthcare IT and Cybersecurity, David Tuell, is on their Board of Directors!)
Junior Achievement (JA) prepares young people for the real world by teaching skills in financial literacy, workforce readiness and entrepreneurship. JA trains community volunteers from all walks of life to deliver curricula, and to incorporate the sharing of personal and professional experiences with students. The hallmark of Junior Achievement efforts, these mentors inspire students by drawing the connection from JA lessons learned in the classroom to real-world situations.
Young Man with a Plan (YMWAP) creates a culture of brotherhood, respect, and achievement among young men of color in Boston to improve their post-secondary outcomes. Their four-year holistic mentoring program helps youth make academic and social-emotional gains and create success plans for sustainable futures.
