Meet Senior Director Kayla Morrison! Kayla leads by example daily for ALKU’s Payroll, Personnel Services, and Benefits teams!

What is your favorite podcast?
Unpopular opinion but I am actually not a podcast person! I really just enjoy listening to music.

Who would you want to have coffee with?
This is a tough one but I am going to go with my nana who passed away a few years ago. I spent a lot of time with her growing up but less in the years right before she passed. This is definitely a regret of mine and I would love to spend more time with her! She was such a strong, loving woman and I always admired her. I’d love to be able to tell her this.

What ERGs are you a part of?
I am part of the team that runs State of Mind. I am also part of the group that is working toward becoming an ERG called the Green Team.

What ALKU Gives Back events or programs have you participated in?
The Rodman Ride for Kids of course! I’ve also worked closely with the Personnel team to bring the ALKU Gives Back opportunities to our external population.

Are you involved in giving back in your local community?
I volunteer at the Salem Food Pantry a few times a year. I help by organizing and passing out Thanksgiving meal kits to people in my community. It’s something I definitely plan on keeping up with!

What’s your career theme song?
Started From the Bottom? Everyday I’m Hustlin’? Let me explain- when I started, there were less than 10 people in all of corporate. Now I oversee over 15 people between all of my teams so you can say I worked really hard to get to where I am now.

What app can’t you live without?
It’s going to sound really basic but Instagram. I’m an avid reader and the Goodreads app is a great way to see what your friends are reading and keep track of how many books you’ve read throughout the year!

What is your favorite office lunch spot?
I think I have to go with the classic- La Rosa’s BUT Boston Chowda is a hidden gem during the cold winter months.

What is your go-to pick from the snack closet?
It isn’t technically in the closet but I love an afternoon cheese stick!

How do you Have Fun Working Hard™?
Singing and dancing along to deal songs. Celebrating all the hard work of my teams. Being ridiculous on Fridays. Talking about TV shows we are all watching. Coming up with nicknames for everyone.

What is your biggest career advice?
Don’t be afraid to speak up even if your opinion isn’t the most popular! This is something I have gotten better at over the years and I think it is so important. It isn’t always easy but it’s always worth it!

Kayla’s Bio:
Kayla started at ALKU in 2013 as a recruiter. From there, she took an opportunity to move over into the role of Consultant Services Coordinator where she was a point of contact for all consultants. Kayla has done it all at ALKU. She learned to process payroll each week before there was a payroll group, then learned compliance, benefits, and HR to help those groups grow. She did all of this while staying organized, motivated, and always wanting to take on more for herself and ALKU.
As a Senior Director, Kayla oversees the Payroll, Personnel Services, and Benefits groups. She works to develop her managers and help to develop their people to continue to grow key groups on the Corporate side of the business. Kayla also contributes to the Directors group as an asset with experience in developing efficient groups, employees, and managers.
