From September 15th to October 15th, the ALKrew celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month! Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives are at the heart of ALKU’s culture. This month as a company, we held ourselves accountable to further educate ourselves on the Hispanic Heritage history and culture.

To kick off the month, in partnership with our Unity Employee Resource Group, we shared multiple Hispanic Heritage resources to encourage the ALKrew to check them out, show support, and celebrate Hispanic Heritage. We shared lists of TV shows, movies, games, and recipes created, starring, or relating to Hispanic Heritage. To highlight a few; Lil Libros, Money Heist, Selena, Loteria, Parques, Tostones, and Rice Pudding. Lists of local Hispanic Heritage businesses and restaurants in each of our office locations, as well as facts and history, were also shared.

Additionally, ALKU’s Unity ERG meeting was opened to all employees, hosted by Parker Philips, ALKU’s DE&I Coordinator, and the Unity ERG members. The ALKrew put their knowledge of Hispanic Heritage month to the test with a fun and educational game of Kahoot! As well as the difference between Hispanic and LatinX, influential figures in America, and traditional Latin American food. Our ALKU Unity ERG also got involved by sharing their stories about growing up in the Hispanic Heritage culture!

A huge thank you to all our speakers and participants. Celebrating this month helps bring us all together to share awareness and make a difference, and the ALKrew did just that. Now that Hispanic Heritage month is behind us, we encourage everyone at ALKU to celebrate Hispanic Heritage and be an ally every day of the year.
