Maddie Carnes

Where did you go to school?
I went to University of Massachusetts, Amherst and graduated in 2018 with a major in Communications and a minor in Psychology. I also had a focus in Spanish!

What was your first role at ALKU?
My career at ALKU began as a Marketing Intern in the summer of 2016, where I gained hands-on experience supporting a small, fast-paced team with a focus on Communications. In June 2018, I came on board full-time as a Marketing Coordinator, eager to build on that foundation and grow within the company.

What does a day in your role include?
A day in my life as Marketing Director is a mix of big-picture strategy, mentoring and developing our talented team, partnering with Senior Leadership, and bringing energy and fun to the floor!

How do you “Have Fun Working Hard®?”
I Have Fun Working Hard® by keeping things light on the floor and making sure we don’t take ourselves too seriously. Whether it’s cracking a quick joke or creating a fun moment, I love helping keep the energy up for the team!

What is your favorite way to get involved at ALKU?
I’ve been involved with ALKU Women Empowered (AWE) since 2020 and have had the privilege of serving as both a Leader and now an Executive Sponsor. I truly enjoy attending meetings and helping to create a space where young female professionals feel empowered to succeed in their careers. I’m also proud to serve on the ALKU Scholarship Committee Board, where I help review applications for our $30,000 academic scholarship. Being part of something that can positively impact someone’s life and help make their college dreams a reality is one of the most rewarding parts of my role!

What is your day-to-day life like outside of ALKU?
When I’m not at work, you can find me in my kitchen experimenting with new recipes, exploring New England with my husband and our Golden Retriever, Koda, or planning my next trip (I’ve been lucky enough to visit over 15 countries!). In the summer, you’ll find me by the ocean at our house in Maine!
